This is a piece I composed in the final year of my Undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Arlington, and I was lucky enough to conduct 12 singers from UTA in my senior composition recital where I initially recorded this piece. I created the lyrics by compiling verses from the Bible's book of Job and book of Psalms into a kind of thought story.

Hear my prayer, Lord; Let my cry come to you.
For my days vanish like smoke.
I lie awake; I have become like a bird alone on a roof.
Why do the wicked live on growing old and increasing in power?
One person dies secure and at ease while another dies in bitterness of soul; side by side they lie in the dust.
Can we fathom the mysteries of God?
Can we probe the limits of the Almighty?
In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all man kind.
Where were we when God made the earth's foundation?
By understanding he set the heavens in place.
Who has a claim against God that he must pay?
Everything under heaven belongs to Him.
Can a mortal be more righteous then God?
Can a man be more pure than his maker?
Who can instruct the Lord as his counselor?
Shall we accept good from God and not trouble?
The Lord gave and the Lord has taken away; may the name of the Lord be praised!
The Lord regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise my prayer.
